D1    On the fifth day of arriving in France on June 23, we started a four-day trip to Provence.

The station is the main railway line connecting Paris, Lyon and Marseille.

It's a five minute walk from the hotel to Lyon railway station in Paris. The bus stop for Avignon is in hall   2. Usually it's Hall who goes in at the main entrance of the station   1. Turn left, go straight and then turn right. That's hall   2。 The electronic screen above the station shows that the train is in voie   7。 We take the first bus to Avignon at 6:19. You must check the ticket on the Yellow machine before you get on the bus. You can get on the bus directly with e-ticket and check the ticket on the bus. There is a luggage rack at the entrance of TGV carriage, which is used to place large luggage or boxes. Mobile phones are not allowed in the car.

Connecting trains

Arrive at Avignon TGV station in more than 2 hours, and there is no need to leave the station. There is an automatic ticket vending machine on the platform. After purchasing tickets directly, you can take the connecting train on the original platform. A woman who also went to Avignon central station helped us to buy tickets on the machine at 1.6 euro per person one way. There were only a few passengers on the train. During the conversation, we learned that the woman was teaching at Avignon University. She arrived at Avignon central railway station in six minutes. We said goodbye to the female teacher and went to the hotel. The hotel is outside the ancient city, a little off the center of the city. As we went in the wrong direction, it was nearly 11 o'clock when we found the hotel. Fortunately, the boss was very enthusiastic and let us check in early. We set out early in the morning and came to the sunny south from Paris with a slight chill. We felt hot and tired, so we decided to have a good rest until the afternoon. The boss gave us a map and told us to take a shortcut or take a bus to the ancient city. We take the nearest N6 bus and get off at the post to Gonghe Avenue. The tourist center and the ticket office are in the same building on Gonghe Avenue. We took the tour map, inquired about the bus stop and timetable to EXX, and then bought the tickets. It's a small souvenir shop with shop assistants and tickets. In addition to tickets, you can also book half day or one-day tours from Avignon. With only half a day left in Avignon, we bought a joint ticket for the church palace and the broken bridge (13.5 euro / person). Walk along Gonghe avenue to Jiaohuang palace. In the afternoon, there are few visitors. You have to send a bag to visit. You rent a guide. Now you have to charge 2 euro / time.

The papal palace was built in the 14th century, which threatened the safety of the Pope because of the fierce struggle between the political and religious factions in Rome. In order to avoid the unrest in Rome and to win over the powerful French King Philip IV, Pope Clement V decided to move the Holy See from Rome to Avignon. From 1309 to 1377, there were seven French popes in the palaces. In the 14th century, Avignon's religious palace became the pilgrimage center of Catholics in the world. The castle like palace is built on a high rock mountain 58 meters above the city. It is connected by the old palace and the new palace. The total length of the built city wall is 5 kilometers, and the battlements, towers and gates are basically intact. In 1336, Pope Benedict XII began to build the first palace, the old palace. In 1342-1352, Pope Clement VI built a new palace,. Although the two styles are quite different, they are influenced by Roman style in architectural style. During the visit, there is a projection to introduce the construction history of the royal palace. The Pope lived a luxurious life in the palace. I remember the introduction that the Pope used more than 10000 eggs for a banquet. There is also a lot of gold in the Pope's chamber of secrets. Rare plants are planted in the garden of the religious palace, and rare animals are raised for the Pope to watch. It was used as a barracks from 1822 to 1906. Now the imperial palace is empty. If you are not interested in history and do not listen to the introduction of the commentator, you do not need to visit it. The temple is majestic in appearance, surrounded by eight towers, and looks like a labyrinth inside. The main hall and small hall are connected, and the corridors are tortuous. Today, this special building has been listed in the world cultural heritage.

There are false windows on the wall. In the old days, taxes were collected in Avignon according to whether the family had a piano and opened several windows. In order to pay less taxes, some people opened fewer windows when they built houses and painted fake windows on the walls.

Come out from the Imperial Palace and cross the alley opposite the square to Duanqiao. Along the way, there are many shops selling lavender and tourist souvenirs. The full name of the broken bridge is St. benenze bridge. When I was studying in University, I read a French folk song "on the bridge of Avignon", singing that people dance in a circle on the bridge of Avignon. In fact, the bridge of St. benenze is not wide enough to dance on. As for the 15-year-old shepherd benezer, who is said to have been inspired by the gods to build the bridge, it is said that there is a man. Originally more than 900 meters long, the bridge has 22 arch holes, which is a masterpiece of European medieval architecture. After the completion of the stone bridge in the 12th century, it was washed down and rebuilt many times. Until the 17th century, people decided to give up this effort. Today, there are only four arches left on the benenze bridge.

On the north side of the bridge is Saint Nicholas with only one wall left   Looking at the river Rhone flowing quietly under the bridge, we can feel the vicissitudes of life. After leaving the broken bridge and returning to the square, I bought yogurt and Puhe ice cream in the ice cream shop opposite the jiaohuanggong. France can buy 2 ice cream discount, but must be placed in the same cup or cone. We went back to Gonghe avenue through the bell tower square, bought food at Carrefour supermarket and bread for lunch the next day, and then went back to the hotel by bus.

There is a Michelin restaurant in Avignon ancient city, on the left side of the temple. After the visit, it is just opposite. We didn't go to the restaurant because we had to make an appointment.

French name of the restaurant: Christian   Etienne, the specialty is said to be tomatoes. The exterior walls of the restaurant are covered with green plants.

There are two stations in Avignon. Please pay attention when you buy a ticket. If you buy a TGV station, you need to transfer to the connecting train (formerly a bus, which has been changed to a train since 2014) to the central railway station, every 30 minutes. TGV to   Centre   The first bus is 6:27 and the last bus is 23:09; Centre  - TGV first bus 5:58, last bus   22:28。 The price of the train ticket from Paris to Avignon is different due to the different travel time and station. 2. Avignon station does not have a luggage office. I specially asked the staff of the tourism center that if they do not stay in Avignon, it will be troublesome to travel with luggage. Ticket price: 11 euro for the temple, 5 Euro for the bridge, 13.5 euro for the joint ticket. Visiting time: 9:00-18:30 for the temple and the bridge, March;    April 1 - June 30   9:00-19:00; July   9: 00-20:008     9:00-20:30; April   9:00-20:30; From September 1 to November 1, 9:00-19:00, February 2 to February 28, 9:30-17:45, stop entering the temple one hour before closing and 30 minutes after the bridge is broken.

Day 2

2014-06-24

D2    On June 24, we reserved a one-day tour of nanfa town in Provence in China. The day before departure, the tour guide contacted us and said that the tourists were sent a Mercedes Benz. In the morning, we walked 20 minutes from the hotel to Avignon central station. By the way, we picked up the train timetable to Arles and the Avignon TGV connecting train timetable. 8: It's 30 o'clock on time. Xiao Huang, the driver and tour guide, is a Chinese student from Liuzhou, Guangxi. He is very enthusiastic and works very hard all the way. Another Mei Mei is a Chinese student from Wuhan. There are four students in total, which is equivalent to chartered a car.

Avignon ancient city

The gate of the ancient city is Gonghe Avenue in the middle, and the tourist center is on the right side of the avenue.

The first scenic spot, the monastery of seneck, was built in the 12th century. Provence is the most beautiful representative of medieval architecture. The monastery, together with the other two monasteries, belongs to the three sisters of the Xidu order. According to the Xidu order, it is forbidden to talk at ordinary times. It is a vegetarian all its life. It gets up every morning to pray and advocates living a poor life. The architecture of the monastery fully embodies the principle of asceticism, and its style is purely Roman. We didn't study inside the monastery. The monastery, which has been hidden in the "paradise" since the middle ages, has now become a business card of Provence.

The second attraction is stone city, a village built on a cliff. All the houses in the village are made of stone. At the commanding height of stone city stands a renaissance Castle overlooking the whole village. On this day, we happened to meet the town market, which was very busy. We wandered around the market, but we forgot the time. Soon more than an hour passed, so we had to leave unhappily. However, I was very satisfied with the market. I ate fresh and sweet cherries (no need to wash, a big box of 2 Euro), bought beautiful handmade scarf, and Meimei bought her favorite souvenirs. I also got something. When we come to the scenic spots of stone city, we can't avoid taking pictures. Then I went to Red Earth City, passing a large lavender field on the way.

The building opposite the viewing platform.

From the viewing platform, the stone city has been photographed countless times.

It's almost noon in Hongshi City, and we have two hours of free time. We bring our own bread, fruits and vegetables. After a simple lunch, the rest of the time is to visit the small town. Red Earth City is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Provence because most of the houses, buildings and tourist souvenirs in the village are made of brown stone materials. It seems that except for tourists and shops, most of the houses in the Red Clay City are closed. Maybe it's noon when the weather is too hot and the residents rest at home. There are also many houses that may be bought by the rich for vacation. All the way, quietly, there is no noise of some famous towns in China. I really like this small town where the colors are burning like flames in the sun. There is also a cruel legend about the Red Earth City: lucieon had a manor owner's wife, Mrs. sermonde, who fell in love with a young minstrel. Her husband discovered their relationship. Very angry, decided to revenge on her wife. One day, he invited the young man to hunt. When they were alone in the forest, the manor owner killed the Bard and dug out his heart. Back in the castle, he ordered the best chef in the family to make a dish, saying it was the heart of the deer. In the evening, he personally served it to his wife. When she finished eating, her husband told her it was really like. Mrs. sermonde went mad in pain, jumped off the cliff and killed herself. The earth turned bright red immediately.

The next scenic spot is the lavender Museum. The Chinese speaking staff led us to visit and learn a little about Lavender. In the end, lavender shops are indispensable. I once bought lavender essential oil when traveling in Yining, Xinjiang, and selected a bottle of essential oil from a wide range of products.

On the way to lavender Museum

A small piece of lavender is planted outside the lavender Museum.

The one on the right is pure lavender, and the one with three flowers on the left is hybrid lavender.

As the last scenic spot, we come to Quanshui Town, which is quite like a small mountain village in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. A small river passes through the village. The river is clear, and the cafe built beside the river adds a romantic feeling. It's a good summer resort in hot summer. Xiao Huang has been taking us to the source of the river. When we see that spring, we can't believe that the Jasper like water comes from this humble spring. It's said that even in the event of drought, the water in the spring still keeps flowing.

Although the spring was roped up, it couldn't resist the influx of tourists.

Many people stayed here and wanted to wait for them to leave to take photos. Later, we were going to leave and saw that they would not leave for a moment, so we took this photo in a hurry. Please do not reprint this photo.

One day tour of nanfa town left us a good memory. At the end of the return journey, we stopped at Auchan supermarket for shopping. Under the guide's recommendation, we bought Danone grain series yoghurt, which tasted really good. Later in Paris, we bought this kind of yoghurt every time we went to the supermarket, but we forgot the name.

Day 3

2014-06-25

D3    There are two ways to go to AIX before June 25, which are high speed or provincial road. Now there are only buses. On the first day we came to Avignon, we learned from the tourist information center that the bus location was changed to outside the city wall of Avignon, not far from our hotel. It's only 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

There are bus stop signs beside the city wall

We take the first bus at 8:30. 40 Euro / person one way. The bus stops a few stops on the way and arrives at the terminal of Aix at 9:50. After leaving the station, we went to the tourist center first. After listening to our tour plan, the staff said that it was too late to visit Mount Victor that day. They could only visit Cezanne's studio and made an appointment to visit it at 2 p.m. We took the reservation ticket and went to the Granet Museum first.

AIX long distance bus station with unique appearance.

The statue of Cezanne is on the side of the grand fountain, which is easy to be neglected.

The largest fountain in AIX, with three sculptures representing agriculture, art and law.

AIX used to be the political, economic and cultural center of Provence. The famous French painter Cezanne was born here. AIX was originally called "water city". In the 18th century, AIX began to build Roman fountains. There are nearly 100 fountains in the city, some built in ancient times and some newly built. Now it is also called "hot spring city". Downtown stands the rontonde fountain, and the statue of Cezanne is nearby. We go to the museum via mirabo Avenue. It is said that one of the most beautiful roads in the world is built according to the golden section. In 1651, it was built on the root of the medieval city wall. At that time, it was only 400 meters long and there were gorgeous carriages running on the road. Now mirabo Avenue is like the Champs Elysees in Paris. On the north side are shops and cafes (with Cezanne's "two brothers cafe"), and on the south side are high-end hotels. There are moss fountains on the main road, leneiwang fountains, moss fountains, no water. We don't have enough time. We walk along the road in a hurry, but we don't care to watch it carefully.

Moss fountain

In the fountain of King Rene, the statue holds a bunch of grapes with regional symbols.

Go down a small path and find the Granet Museum. It is one of the most important art museums in the south of France. It contains all the works and Collections Donated by the painter Granet. The museum was formerly known as the knight's Monastery of Malta. In 1862, the AIX government opened a free school in the museum, and many works of art became teaching materials. From 1857 to 1862, Cezanne studied drawing here and copied many oil paintings, such as the kiss of the muse and the prisoner of the West. The museum displays a series of art collections from the 14th century to the 20th century, including the works of French, Flanders, Dutch and Italian painters, especially ten works by Cezanne. Send bags when you enter the museum. No photos are allowed in the museum. We spent more than an hour in the museum, then went to the Cathedrale   St SAUVEUR, also known as the Cathedral of the Savior. On the way, I passed by an exquisite dessert shop (I forgot my name and didn't take a picture) and bought a bag (four) of almond cookies (calisson), which are made of crushed almonds, sugar and jam. However, if you don't like sweets, don't buy them.

Musee Granet

Cezanne's baptism took place in St. Sewell's Cathedral, where his funeral was also held. The church combines various architectural styles from the 5th century to the 17th century. The three halls in the church have three styles: Roman style, Gothic style and Baroque style. In the Gothic middle hall, there is a famous painting "Maria on the thorns" by a 15th century French painter, which is surrounded by an iron fence. The cloister in the church is also the focus of the tour: a very beautiful pure Roman cloister built in the 12th century. However, we can't go in at will. We are led by full-time personnel every half an hour. The number of people is limited each time. We missed the last visit in the morning. The cloister closes at noon and starts at 14:00 p.m.

On the left side of the picture is St. Sewell's Cathedral

The main entrance of the church, visitors enter from the side door

We ordered the same day meal at a restaurant opposite the church, 14.8 euro. There are bream, celery and potato salad, home style chowder, mushroom and vegetable soup in the original juice. If the amount is enough, the dishes taste good. While waiting, more than 20 uniformed civil servants came to the restaurant for dinner. After dinner, I ordered another cup of coffee, 1.6 euro.

From Cezanne's studio to church

Exsist almond cake, crushed in the bag.

After lunch, we went directly to Cezanne's studio, came out of St. sauvigre's Cathedral, turned right, walked for about 15 minutes, walked up a small slope, and saw a green building. If you don't make an appointment in advance, you can buy tickets first, then queue up and wait for the visitors to come out before you go in. We show the reservation ticket and pay for it. It's 5.5 euro per person, which saves the waiting time. There was a long line outside.

Walk along the path, and on the left side is St. Sewell's Cathedral

Old photos of Cezanne's studio.

Waiting for Cezanne's studio to open

Cezanne painted here every day from 1901 until his death in 1906. Dozens of paintings come from this, including the famous work "bathing girl" in her later years. In the studio, not only the materials used by painters, but also some daily necessities of painters are preserved, some of which become a part of painters' works. The studio can't take pictures, and there is no interpreter, but it provides instructions. There is a step on the left side of the studio, and up the step is the garden. There are mostly trees in the garden, which is an original ecological garden without careful care. According to many instructions, Cezanne often observes mount victor in the studio. In fact, he can't see the mountain from the studio, even in the garden. I got confirmation from the staff. If you stay in AIX for one night, you can go to Victor hill. When we returned to the church, we missed the 3:30 p.m. visit to the cloister and had to give up and go straight to the wangdom palace.

The interior of Cezanne's studio is allowed to take photos, which can be borrowed from the manual.

The little girl went to the garden

On the way to wangdom Palace

Wangdom palace is located in a garden. It was built in 1667. It is surrounded by trees and flowers. It was the residence of Henry IV's grandson. Now it has become a museum of furniture and art. Two male statues on both sides of the gate decorate the balcony. You need to buy another ticket to visit the house. We walked around the garden and left.

We went to the station along the alleys of the city and passed the city hall. The mahogany gate was carved with a lion's head, which was very unique. The clock tower on one side is also very interesting. It is said that the puppets inside will rotate with the time. But we didn't take a closer look. After going out of the alley, you turn to mirabo Avenue, and by the way, you go to the department store nearby. After a quick glance, you go to the station,

On the left is the city hall

We took the last bus back to Avignon city and went to the Rock Park that we didn't have time to go to on the first day (closed at 8 p.m. for free). The little Palace Museum and Notre Dame are also nearby, but they are closed. In the evening, there are few visitors in the park. It's very quiet. You can get a panoramic view of the Rhone River and the broken bridge from the high observation platform. When we came out of the park, we went to the nearby streets. Most of the shops were closed. We bought some lavender and soap. We took bus No. 6 on Gonghe avenue to the hotel. We bought lunch boxes at the nearby Chinese restaurant and went back to the hotel. Day 4

2014-06-26

D4    On June 25, we will visit Arles on the last day of our stay in Provence, because we have to catch the TGV back to Paris at more than 6 p.m. on this day. It only takes more than 20 minutes to take the train from Avignon to Arles, and there are more trains between the two places.

On the way out of the hotel, I met a kindergarten. There was a game map on the square. Do French children play house jumping?

There are few passengers on the train

There should be a tourist information center in Arles railway station. We didn't arrive at work time. After leaving the railway station, turn left and go straight to the gate. Under the guidance of a local woman, we went straight to the tourist center on lice Avenue. The center just opened to welcome guests. When we entered the ancient city, the town didn't seem to wake up completely. Walking in the winding alleys, we hardly met any pedestrians. Only some cafes had people drinking coffee.

The guide map on the ancient city wall

Arles not only has historical sites, but also lived here because of Van Gogh. That period was the heyday of his creation. Among his hundreds of works, there were famous "sunflower" and "starry sky". In 1981, many historic sites in Arles were listed as world cultural heritage. Today, Arles has become an "ancient city of art and history". We have purchased a joint ticket of 6.5 euro per person for the ancient arena and the ancient theater.   In Arles, we visited the following scenic spots: Van Gogh hospital, St. tofeem church, ancient arena, ancient theater, ancient Roman market, Van Gogh cafe.

The building behind the fountain is the city hall. On the right side of the photo is St. tofeem's church

Art on display in the shop window of Republic Square: Arles girl in traditional costume

The original name of the hospital is engraved on the gate of the van Gogh hospital   Van Gogh used to recuperate in it. There was a small pool in the middle of a small courtyard. He painted the hospital. We asked Van Gogh which room he had lived in, but we didn't get a definite answer. There are Van Gogh postcards for sale. But we went early, and the shop hasn't opened yet.

A path on the right side of St. tofeem's Church leads to the ancient arena and the ancient theater. The arena was built in 90 B.C. with a circular structure and three storey stands around the infield, which could accommodate 24000 spectators at that time. The central circular field was the battlefield where people and animals fought in ancient Rome. Now the Colosseum is still in use, but it has been changed to bullfight. There were students rehearsing there that day. We sat in the grandstand to watch the students rehearse, on the viewing platform to see the ancient city of Arles.

The path behind the ancient Arena

Arles houses and the Rhone River in the distance

Salesmen in front of the ancient Arena

In the dining room around the ancient arena, the sun shading bamboo curtain creates an artistic effect

The ancient theatre is very close to the arena. It was built in the period of Augustus. It was destroyed in the 5th century and rediscovered in the 17th century. At that time, the grandstand of the theater could accommodate 10000 people, but now only a dozen rows of seats have been preserved, and two broken stone columns less than 10 meters long in the center of the venue make people vaguely imagine the glory of the theater in those years. But people who love music often hold outdoor concerts here. It is suggested that those who are not interested in historic sites do not need to go.

It's the front door of the ancient theater, but visitors can't get in through this door.

Stone pillars with curtain

After seeing the four scenic spots for some time, we didn't want to go too far, so we went to the oldest Roman ruins in Arles, the underground cloister of the ancient Roman market built in the 1920s-30bc. We are among the last visitors in the morning. Tickets are 3.5 euro per person. Entering from an entrance of the city hall building, we felt very cool when we entered the underground corridor. It was like entering an air raid shelter. There was no interpreter. We walked along the corridor to the end, and then returned to the exit. I guess the ancient people built the market underground to keep the food fresh.

From the ambulatory of the underground market, we went to the van Gogh caf é, which was named after Van Gogh's painting of the same name in September 1888.

Although we heard the local French comment on the van Gogh cafe in the van Gogh hospital that it was commercial hype, we went to see it. Because I couldn't drink coffee, we took a tour photo here. Netizens also commented on the restaurant   No, we're not going to eat here.

Let's go to La recommended by netizens   Charcuterie restaurant, who knows, when we got to that street, the French said that the restaurant was closed, so they found a restaurant with many customers nearby and ordered the daily dishes: bread, lamb, diced meat, peas, rice and English ice cream. Another Provence specialty pasti pomegranate juice, a total of 17 euro / person. The French like to eat outdoors. They only enter the shop when there are no seats outside.

Green basil

The Church of Saint tofim, which is listed as a world cultural heritage, is located on the side of the Republic Square. Arles became an important center of Catholicism in the middle ages. There are many legends about the church. The front door of the church is carved with exquisite sculptures, which tell the life of St. Antin, the first Christian martyr in Provence. The church was also built for him. The interior of the church is the opposite of the main entrance, simple and unadorned. Both the church and the cloister are one of the outstanding masterpieces of Roman Art in Provence,   We didn't go to the church cloister. There's an extra charge.

Inside the church

After lunch, it's more than two o'clock. We are the train at three o'clock. We have some time left to stroll around the city. I like this leisurely old town very much. It's not as big as AIX, and it's not as famous as Avignon. But the tourists in the streets are very leisurely, and AIX is a bit bustling. Avignon is even more noisy.

It's supposed to be a relic

We sit on the Rhone river for a short rest, then take the train back to Avignon, go to the hotel to pick up our luggage, take the bus to post, take the connecting train to TGV station at central railway station, and then transfer to TGV to Paris. The four-day trip to Provence has left us wonderful memories.

Tips: suggestions:   If you have enough time, you can buy a travel pass, 9 euro per person. You can choose to visit 4 historic sites and a museum, valid for 1 month. Ticket price: 6.5 euro for the ancient arena and ancient theater (not sold separately), 3.5 euro for the underground cloister of the ancient Roman market, and 3.5 euro for the cloister of the Church of St. tofeim visit time:   Ancient arena, ancient theater, October 1-31 9:00-18:00, November 2-february 28   10:00-17:00; March 1 - April 30   9:00-18:00; May 2 - September 30   9: 00-19:00 underground cloister of ancient Roman Market  : October 1-31 9:00-17:00   14:00-18:00  ; November 2 - February 28   10: 00-12:00, 14:00-17:00, 1 April to 30 April, 9:00-12:00, 12:00-18:00, 2 September to 30 September, 9:00-12:00   14:00-19:00
